OLIGOMERIX, Inc. is the sole company focused on drug discovery for AD targeting soluble aggregates of tau (tau oligomers). The Company is developing compounds that inhibit tau oligomer formation, that can disrupt tau oligomers, or that can inhibit tau-mediated neurotoxicity. Its approach is to accelerate proprietary hits through medicinal chemistry approaches to optimize compound activity and reduce toxicity. A parallel project is evaluating a library of compounds that show high activity against tau targets for in licensing. Compounds derived from this library as potential leads are expected to be accelerated through pre-clinical development because the parent compound has been well characterized and shows high activity in vitro against the tau target, and has a low toxicity profile. While we anticipate development of significant lead compounds against the tau oligomer target for Alzheimer’s disease, it is expected that compounds may have a broader use against other neurodegenerative tauopathies.
